By maintaining proper care of your teeth every day, you will have a smile you’re proud to showcase – plus, you’ll be less likely to require extensive dental work in the future. By incorporating just a few simple things into your regular routine, you’ll be ready to flash that bright, healthy smile for the camera at any moment.

Let’s go over a few tips from your dentist to help you keep those pearly whites healthy for a lifetime:

Brush Your Teeth Regularly

It is best to brush your teeth at least twice per day in order to remove bacteria and debris. This will help to prevent plaque buildup, which turns into tartar and potential tooth decay. This also helps to prevent gum disease.

You will likely never have to buy a toothbrush at a store, because your dentist will always give you a new toothbrush at the end of every regular dental appointment. The dentist will know what kind of toothbrush would be best for your teeth.

Floss at Least Once a Day

You will also want to floss your teeth at least once per day either with a water flosser, dental floss, or a pre-threaded flosser to remove food particles from between your teeth. If something is bothering you because food is stuck in your teeth, be sure to floss it out before you become used to it and forget to remove it.

Watch What You Eat

You can help to prevent developing oral health problems like gum disease and tooth decay by limiting your consumption of food and beverages such as citrus fruits and juices, sticky foods, and foods that are made with processed sugar. Also limit your intake of coffee, tea, red wine, and dark fruit juices to reduce teeth staining.

Visit the Dentist at Least Every Six Months

Your dentist will recommend that you have a routine cleaning and examination every six months. If you have had considerable oral health issues in the past, you may be recommended to have these appointments every three or four months.

Also, as we get older, we need to have dental appointments more frequently. Ask your dentist how often you should have your regular dental cleanings and checkups.
