If your teeth are crooked, discolored, chipped, pitted, misaligned, or have gaps between them, modern cosmetic dentistry offers plenty of options to have one or all of those issues fixed. Cosmetic dentistry is the medical improvement of the overall appearance of your teeth – resulting in a great smile.

Although this area of dentistry is elective and not essential, repairing your teeth’s appearance can have many benefits on your oral health as well. For example, you may be able to bite and chew more comfortably than before after your teeth have been straightened and corrected.

How Can My Teeth Be Perfect Again?

There are many different types of cosmetic dentistry procedures to fit your wants, needs, and budget, including the following:

1. Cosmetic Bonding

This procedure is the most cost-effective and simplest of all of these options. It is used to repair all kinds of minor dental issues, such as tooth decay and chipped teeth.

The dentist will first determine the proper color of the bonding agent by matching it with your existing teeth. The dentist then applies the composite to the area that requires repair, shaping the composite so the repaired area looks natural and flawless.

If bonding is being used to repair a cavity, the dentist will first shave off the damaged and decayed area before applying and molding the bonding agent.

2. Inlays and Onlays

These procedures are often used to fill a tooth when the tooth has moderate decay. The function of inlays and onlays is to support the teeth, restore their natural shape, and prevent further decay and damage to the dental structure.

When you have seen gold in a person’s teeth, those are onlays. Inlays and onlays are created outside of the tooth first, and they are specially shaped to fit the decayed tooth.

3. Dental Veneers

These are thin, custom-made porcelain shells. A dental veneer is created in a lab to match the tooth, then it is cemented to the front of the tooth.

Dental veneers can be used to cover various dental conditions, like chipped teeth, crooked teeth, discolored teeth, or teeth with gaps between them. They are usually done only on the teeth that are visible when you smile.

4. Teeth Whitening

This is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. Whitening or bleaching your teeth can be performed quickly in your local dentist’s office.

Before this procedure starts, however, your dentist will first clean your mouth of all plaque, tartar, and food particles. Because teeth are prone to food stains, effects of medication, and smoking, this procedure can significantly restore your teeth’s brightness.

5. Dental Crowns

These are dental caps made out of porcelain, acrylic, or ceramic. Dental crowns restore the place of missing, broken, or decayed teeth, and they are affixed atop a dental implant.

6. Dental Implants

Dental implants are permanent replacements for lost teeth, whether they were lost due to an accident or just from decay. The procedure is through inserting a metal screw-like post at the site of the missing tooth as the root, and it holds the dental crown.
